Second show for this week is Hallmark Playhouse - The Story of Silent Night
Radio show like this are rare gems. This story, though written for radio tells us how the Christmas Hymn Silent Night came about. Again, this show is found on the archive website, so it is listed in a play list. Scroll down to #58 Silent Night, and enjoy!
Christmas isn't about the gifts, tree, big turkey dinner, carolling, and all the other `things' we do to celebrate. It's about Christ, and sometimes we let our celebrating take over the picture of what the true meaning of Christ's birth really is. We get to the point too, I think, where we are so familiar with the Christmas story, that we take it for granted, or don't really get the meaning of the miraculous things that happened that night.
Take for instant the fact that the angels in heaven couldn't keep quiet and had to share the news with some lowly shepherds! Even creation celebrated! A star appeared! And some wise men from farther east, saw it and arrived 2 years later to worship the new king. Wow!
Silent Night is probably my favorite Christmas Hymn.
It's peaceful. And I find it really makes me stop and think about my Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ!
Silent Night
Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven above
Heavenly, hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven above
Heavenly, hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.
Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.
